Fraudsters published a fake video on YouTube, passing it off as an official speech by billionaire Elon Musk at the Bitcoin 2024 conference, where he promises free distribution of various cryptocurrencies.

Despite the fact that the Bitcoin 2024 event has already ended, over the past weekend, fraudsters managed to distribute videos on YouTube depicting the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk. Viewers had the impression that they were watching an online broadcast of the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville. In fact, the video is a looped deepfake of Elon Musk, created using artificial intelligence (AI).

In a fake video, users are required to send any amount in BTC, ETH, DOGE, or USDT stablecoins to the specified address. In return, scammers promise to send twice the amount. It doesn't matter how much a person sends: 0.1 BTC or 10 BTC, because twice as much will be returned to him, the artificially generated Elon Musk assured. Scammers have already managed to collect 0.322 BTC, 2.026 ETH and 374.63 DOGE from trusting users for a total of $28,586.

Bitcoin proponent and founder of the Wyre crypto platform Michael Dunworth has warned his followers about the scheme. He received numerous calls from people who told him that Elon Musk was giving away free bitcoins for Bitcoin 2024. This fake broadcast has already been viewed by more than 70,000 people, and the views may also be fake, warned Dunworth.

I’ve had people call me telling me Elon Musk is giving free Bitcoins away at Bitcoin ‘24

….

No wonder, they have a fake live stream with dubbed voice over, and 70k+ (fake) people watching the live stream.

Fraud with Elon Musk's deepfake has already happened repeatedly. In November, the attackers advertised another cryptocurrency distribution on his behalf, promising to pay a bonus of 200% of the investment amount.
