Gref shared a story about the neural network, which caused dissatisfaction of deputies.
The head of Sberbank, German Gref, told the Finopolis forum that Sberbank employees were called to the prosecutor's office because of the Kandinsky neural network, which created an inaccurate image of the Russian flag.
According to Gref, the neural network, which can generate images based on user requests, tried to "improve" the Russian flag and drew the domes of St. Basil's Cathedral on it. This was regarded by some deputies as a "mockery of the national flag". One of them, Alexander Mironov, said that the neural network could not generate the flag of Russia in three stripes, and when prompted for "flag of Ukraine" or" flag of America", it gave exact copies of the flags of these countries.
German Gref noted that after this incident, Sberbank stopped generating state symbols using the neural network. Now it generates a pre-defined image. In addition, the developers "tightened the security settings". However, this caused the model to lose its creativity and accuracy. "We haven't been able to set up the model for the last six months, because we tightened the security settings. At the same time, the model in general access has lost 12% in creativity and accuracy, " he said.
Gref also thanked the prosecutor who reviewed the case and released Sberbank employees with a warning. "It's good that the prosecutor was so modern, with a sense of humor — he studied everything, and, thank God, we were not attracted anywhere. He said: guys, let's go to work, but be careful. <...> We will have to go through this period. We need the help of the state in leniency and understanding that we are still here as children — we are not strongly judged," he said.
The head of Sberbank also spoke about the role of the state in the development of artificial intelligence. In his opinion, the state should try not to over-regulate this sphere and create conditions for its development. He cited the example of the United States and China, which actively use artificial intelligence, and Europe, which "killed" its development with its directives. "Of course, it is very important for us not to repeat this. But it seems to me that so far in Russia, the government understands this very well, and the Central Bank approaches this soberly and without any fears," Gref said.
