On July 30, a fundraising campaign for the "hacker tamagotchi" Flipper Zero started on Kickstarter. It took $ 60,000 to launch the device, which the developers received in eight minutes. On July 31, the mark on the counter exceeded $ 1 million.
The gadget allows you to intercept control of TVs, split systems, intercoms and other electrical devices, including garage doors. The main idea behind Flipper Zero is to bring together all the hardware you might need on the go. “I dreamed of a device that would implement typical attack scenarios, was always on alert and at the same time did not represent a bundle of crumbling boards wrapped with electrical tape,” said the author of the project, Pavel Zhovner.
In summary, Flipper Zero includes:
- radio module based on TI CC1101;
- built-in decoder for popular remote control algorithms;
- infrared transmitter;
125 kHz RFID antenna;
- built-in panel for reading iButton keys;
GPIO pins
- USB Type-C port.
With the Tamagotchi Flipper Zero has in common a cyber dolphin "living" inside it, which needs to be looked after. The dolphin is constantly hungry, hacked devices act as food for it.
Flipper Zero is not an illegal device. The source code of the original firmware is open, and by default there are no "hacker" functions, such as brute-force passwords, signal interception, etc. The buyers of the device will independently enter them. Flipper Zero uses a USB-C port for flashing.
$ 60K was the baseline target. Upon reaching the marks of $ 100 thousand, $ 300 thousand and $ 700 thousand, Zhovner promised a new option in the gadget - additional body colors, a Bluetooth module and an NFC chip, respectively. There were still 28 days left until the end of the fundraising campaign.
The first copies, which have already been disassembled, could be bought for $ 99 (7260 rubles). The base price at the time of fundraising will be $ 129 (RUR 9,460).
