The fraudulent company accepted orders from advertising agencies, but advertisements were displayed on fake copies of real sites.

The Federal Court of Brooklyn (USA) sentenced Russian citizen Alexander Zhukov to 10 years in prison for online fraud. Zhukov's actions cost the American advertising industry more than $ 7 million.

In the fall of 2014, Zhukov founded Media Methane, which offered its clients the placement of video ads on the websites of various media, including the New York Times, New York Post, and New York Daily News.

The company accepted orders from advertising agencies, but the advertising itself was displayed on fake copies of real sites created by Zhukov and his accomplices.

The fraudster rented 2,000 commercial computer servers in Dallas and Amsterdam and used them to create bogus traffic and visibility of user interaction with commercials. According to court documents, Zhukov hired several programmers to create and maintain the fraudulent infrastructure, and called himself the "king of fraud."

Alexander Zhukov was arrested in Bulgaria in 2018 and extradited to the US authorities in 2019. In May 2021, a jury found him guilty of fraud and money laundering charges. The court also fined the fraudster $ 3,827,493.
