“You know,” Nikolai exclaimed, waving his arms enthusiastically, “an interesting thought occurred to me.
- Has it come to mind? .. - Sing smiled. - Well, what is it? Anything again about the substantiality of Matter and Spirit?
- No! - Nikolay waved away in annoyance. - I thought about humanity. About the future of mankind. What will happen to us in the process of further development, what will we develop into? Evolution does not stand still, and therefore it would be foolish to regard man as the “crown of creation”. As a man evolved from a monkey, so a man must develop ... something more perfect than himself. How do you think?
“Actually, man did not evolve from an ape,” Sing muttered thoughtfully.
- How not from a monkey ?! - Nikolay was surprised.
- People and monkeys are two species with a common ancestor.
- Ah ... there are you talking about. And I was already scared. Thought you'd say we descended from Adam and Eve. This is not the point. I mean that man cannot be the last rung of the evolutionary ladder. It's so ridiculous to believe.
- Agree.
- There is no doubt that the species Homo Sapiens is only an intermediate link between the animal world and ...
- How?
- And something else. Something that has never been in nature before.
- Perhaps. I think there is a reason in your words.
- Of course have! What amazes me most is that such an obvious idea never occurs to anyone. We are so used to being proud of our exceptional position that we are afraid to even think that someday we will have to give up our privileged place to someone else. Someone to replace us.
- And how do you imagine this Superman?
- I do not know. - Nikolai laughed. - The fact of the matter is that I don’t know! Only the term "superman" is clearly unacceptable here.
- And why is that?
- Well, we do not call a person "super-monkey", and a monkey - "subhuman"? Both are two completely different creatures. In some ways similar, but, despite this, very distant from each other.
- Is it all about terms? - Sing grinned.
“And in terms too,” Nikolai answered quite seriously. - The term should adequately reflect the object it denotes. If we start calling things with deliberately false names, we will get confused and never get to their true essence.
- Well, well, what do you want to call your ... "creature of the future"?
- That's the question - to name it! We do not even remotely know what it can be.
- In fact of the matter. In order to adequately characterize what does not yet exist, it is necessary to use the concept that is closest to it in properties from those with which we are quite familiar. That is why the term "Superman" fits here perfectly well.
Nikolai waved him off in annoyance.
- To hell with him! Let there be a Superman, it's not about the name.
“I’m sorry,” Sing smiled, “if we start calling things with deliberately false names, we will never get to their true essence.”
- Oh oh. To me, too, a witty self-taught. Essentially, can you say something?
- Essentially? And what can I say in essence? Yes, evolution is ahead of man. Yes, something more perfect will take over the championship from him. But it is pointless to guess what it will be. It makes no sense to a person.
- Hell no! - Nikolay exclaimed. - Not only is it not pointless, but it is simply vital. This, I would say, is the most pressing of all problems. I'm not even talking about the need to revise our ideological stereotypes in connection with this, but this so-called Superman can pose a threat to the existence of Man himself. To all humanity!
- So what? Sing asked calmly.
- How so what ?! - Nikolay was confused. - What should we do, sit back and do nothing?
- What can be done here? It is impossible to count evolution. The Purpose of Life is constant self-development, striving for perfection. What do you suggest, stagnation, degradation? And why should humanity inevitably disappear with the emergence of the Superman? After all, animals (in particular, the same monkey) did not disappear with the advent of man.
They walked in silence for a while.
- However, most likely, the transition from human to superman will proceed imperceptibly.
- Such as? - Nikolay has taken an interest.

- How do I know? Guessing is pointless. You can assume thousands of options, but in reality everything will happen very differently.
- No, but all the same? - Nikolay did not calm down. - Give at least one hypothesis.
- Why?
- Yes, there is no need. Just.
Sing thought for a moment.
- Well, let's say, a fairly widespread version recently, - he said with a mysterious smile, - the emergence of a cybernetic civilization.
- War of people and machines? - Nikolay grimaced. - Old and ridiculous. Beaten plot, throw something newer.
- Well, why is he beaten up and why is war necessary? Let's trace the course of evolution on Earth: NONLIVING MATTER - PROTEIN STRUCTURES - PROTESTIC and PLANTS - ANIMALS - HUMAN. In other words, an inanimate non-intelligent substance, a living non-intelligent substance, a living intelligent substance ... Why not complete this chain and assume the existence of non-living forms of mind? Everything turns out in strict accordance with the basic law of evolutionary development. The next round of the evolutionary spiral comes to an end, and we all come to the same inanimate matter, but which has absorbed all the best qualities of living things, first of all, the mind.
- Wait, wait. Nonsense!
- Nonsense, of course, - Sing laughed, - but why not a hypothesis? Modeling his basic properties, a person invents an Artificial Cybernetic Intelligence. First, cybernetic mechanisms (not yet intelligent or semi-intelligent) are created in order to work for humans. They are under his complete control, they can neither set goals for themselves, nor be aware of them. Full automation of production is taking place. Hard physical labor disappears, people who are free from it are overjoyed. Everything that is needed is produced for them by machines. At first they are only blind performers, everything is under control. But it's damn tiring to control it! And why not shift this onto the shoulders of machines? On machines trained to think. At first, specially designed computers will control only a small fraction of production systems. Then whole factories come under their wise guidance. And finally, a certain cybernetic monster appears, entrusted with the control and development of the entire production system on the planet. Local civilizations by that time will have long been merged into a single planetary civilization.
So machines carry out and machines control the production of wealth. Man is free! He rests, enjoys life, is engaged in science and art. So far, so good. Machines are obedient, and any control over them completely (or almost completely) disappears. This is where the "birth" of the Superman takes place. Trained to think, the Machine cannot but improve in this process. The development of her mental abilities is carried out in geometric progression. And then one day she begins to realize her individuality, acquires her own "Ego". There is no war between humans and robots for the simple reason that: a) production no longer belongs to humans; b) people absorbed in self-contemplation and contemplation of the Universe do not realize the threat hanging over them; c) machines are damn smart, they see two hundred steps ahead and do not give a person any reason to worry.
Thanks to artificial culling, which is indirectly engaged in by the imperceptibly emerging and firmly rooted civilization of superintelligent machines, the human population is maintained at a strictly specified level and strictly specified quality. The culling goes unnoticed, "in a natural way" (in fact, this can only be called culling only conditionally). For example, through a decrease in the birth rate by introducing certain ideas and behavioral programs into a person's consciousness. Fortunately, the entire information system of the planet is under the control of machines. And they have nowhere to rush - they have eternity ahead of them. For the remnants of the once mighty family, which bore the proud name of Homo sapiens, all the conditions of an artificial paradise are created, in which he lives out his last days. Secured old age ...

Meanwhile, the Great Cosmic Expansion is carried out by machines. Information from the Central Intelligent Computer, which is the core of this new supercivilization, is copied and sent to the most distant corners of the Universe. There, from these "intelligent seeds" new supercivilizations, similar to the mother one, grow. As in a living organism, cell division and tissue proliferation take place, in the same way, a new intelligent super-system is expanding on the scale of the entire physical Universe. The entire material Universe thus becomes a single intelligent inanimate organism.
Who knows, perhaps biological evolution is just a prelude to the evolution of another, much more magnificent. Cybernetic evolution. After all, biological evolution was preceded in its time by chemical evolution, and that - by the evolution of matter. Let's look around: TVs, refrigerators, telephones, calculators, computers ... What is it? Are not "coacervate drops" of the future cybernetic civilization? .. Phew! Sing stopped and wiped sweat from his forehead. - He composed a whole plot for a science fiction novel. Well, how do you like my hypothesis? A bit chaotic, but it's a matter of technology. If you think about everything properly and do a detailed analysis, I think you can get a coherent and completely scientific "Theory of Evolutionary Development". What do you say?
- Coacervate drops? .. - Nikolai winced. - Listen, let's change the subject. Something the problem of the Superman does not seem so interesting to me.
Sing laughed.
- What are you? Don't take everything lightly. - He patted Nikolai on the shoulder. - I just wanted to say that you can invent anything. Making such forecasts is a thankless task. All the same, everything will not be as you think. Came ...
