In moments of stress and uncertainty, as well as when engaging in creative work, cognitive and emotional energy is spent on making difficult and important decisions. And everything else goes into autopilot mode. Therefore, you should always check your habits, because in times of stress we rely on them the most.

If the habits are good, they will support us. If they are bad, they can let us down a lot.

The power of habits is in unconsciousness and regularity. Essentially, habits are solutions to recurring problems in our lives.

Habit has two phases: problem and solution. That is, we get an incentive that makes us want to. Tension arises - the desire to satisfy this desire. This is the problem phase. Then we look for a solution, take some action and get a reward. Action and reward is the decision phase.

Behind the habit is the desire to change your state. If any habit has its function, it turns out that there are no good and bad habits? What is wrong if I eat in front of the TV if it helps me calm down?

The difference between good and bad habits is the long-term effect. Now watching TV shows helps me to switch and deal with anxiety. But in the long run, it may not be the healthiest solution to this problem. It is worth looking not at the current results, but at the trajectory.

You are what you do regularly. Your knowledge is a lagging indicator of your reading and learning habits. Your physical condition is a lagging indicator of your eating and physical activity habits. Your bank account is a lagging indicator of your financial habits. Etc.

Who will you be and where will you be in 10 years if you continue to do what you are used to doing now?
