Law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Kazakhstan have identified more than 13.7 thousand cases of Internet fraud since the beginning of 2023, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the country Igor Lepekha said.

As a result of illegal actions, more than 13.5 thousand people were injured, of which 70% are residents of cities, and 30% are residents of rural areas, the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said, speaking in the national parliament.

According to Lepekhi, 521 people were detained on suspicion of involvement in Internet fraud.

At the same time, he noted that most of the fraudulent actions related to the registration of online loans and loans for Kazakhstanis, theft of bank savings, are committed from abroad.

"As a result of about 9 thousand crimes committed by them, about 7 billion tenge (over 1.4 billion rubles) was damaged to citizens, of which 5.8 billion were issued in the form of loans and loans," the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stressed.

He also added that the total damage caused to citizens of Kazakhstan exceeded 11.3 billion tenge (2.3 billion rubles).
