Hello, cyberstalkers! Hello, random carder. It's no secret that most hackers use shadow. But there are also those who defected to the feds side. Someone out of a sense of patriotism, and someone because they took it by the ass and "made an offer that you can't refuse."..

Go:

How the war in Georgia inspired the security services to recruit patriotic hackers.

On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgian troops began shelling the capital of South Ossetia, Tskhinvali, and then stormed the city. A few hours later, Russia sent troops into Georgia; the conflict lasted five days and ended with the de facto separation of South Ossetia from Georgia. This war was fought not only on Georgian territory, but also in cyberspace: Russian hacker groups attacked the websites of Georgian media and government agencies and posted their messages on them. It was then that the Russian special services drew attention to patriotic hackers — and began to systematically use their services in a voluntary and compulsory manner.

So:

On August 8, 2008, hacker Leonid Stroikov-most often signed as R0id on the Internet — was sitting at home in his Khabarovsk apartment, drinking beer and reading Bashorg1. At one point, his attention was drawn to an emergency news broadcast on TV — it reported that Georgian troops had begun shelling the capital of South Ossetia, Tskhinvali.

Impressed by what he heard, Stroikov, an experienced hacker (for example, in 2006, he described in detail how to hack an online bank), began to study the websites of Georgian government organizations and mass media-to look for security holes through which to attack them. Soon, several websites of Georgian media and government agencies were hacked, and attacks continued throughout the conflict — and occurred after it.

According to several Russian-speaking hackers, it was the events in Georgia that were the catalyst for the Russian special services to cooperate with patriotic hackers, drawing attention to their actions during the conflict. Since then, they have been brought to work regularly-sometimes voluntarily, sometimes forcibly: under the threat of criminal cases.

The secret services prefer not to employ many technical specialists, but rather to supervise freelance employees-they are found through criminal cases of hacking and carding, or they are hired on underground specialized forums. Another hacker says that the Ministry of Defense and the FSB "there is a common scheme to attract illegal hackers, encourage them, and create conditions for them to work in order to get the necessary information through them». Special services even often hide hackers in safe houses so that they are not caught investigating cybercrime by police officers from the "K" department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Ruslan Stoyanov, the former head of Kaspersky Lab's investigation department, who has worked extensively with the FSB, has openly warned that such cooperation is dangerous. «There is a huge temptation for "decision makers"take advantage of ready-made solutions to Russian cybercrime in order to influence geopolitics, "Stoyanov, who has been held in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center on charges of treason since January 2017, wrote in an open letter. — The worst — case scenario is to give cybercriminals immunity from retaliation for stealing money in other countries in exchange for intelligence. If this happens, a whole layer of "patriot thieves" will appear. Semi-legal "patriot groups" can much more openly invest stolen capital in the creation of more modern Trojan programs, and Russia will receive the most advanced cyber weapons.».

The services of such "patriot groups" in the special services have been used for at least ten years.

Of course, it is not for me to condemn such "patriots"... But, alas, those who sold themselves to those in power for a higher "roof" and sweeter soup are becoming more and more numerous every year. One day, as you read this article now, you will have to make your own choice...
