Officers of the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Oryol Region, as a result of a set of operational-search measures, went on the trail and detained three previously unconvicted residents of one of the districts of the region born in 2005 and 2006, suspected of illegal access to computer information protected by law and a series of frauds.

As the police previously established, in the period from July 2023 to May of this year, young people purchased SIM cards, and then calculated which of them were previously used to register on the Unified Public Services Portal. Further, the accomplices, using subscriber numbers, hacked other people's accounts and gained access to the full personal data of their owners.

Then they issued loans through the websites of various microfinance organizations for citizens whose information was obtained by criminal means. To credit loans, the accomplices indicated the details of the accounts under their control. The amounts of stolen money ranged from three to 20 thousand rubles.

At present, the involvement of accomplices in the commission of 35 facts of crimes under Part 1 of Articles 272 and 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation has been established. In most cases, residents of the Oryol region suffered from the illegal activities of the defendants. However, among the victims there are also citizens from the Bryansk and Moscow regions, as well as Kaliningrad.

The detained young people became defendants in criminal cases initiated in OP No 2 (in the Zavodskoy district) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the city of Orel. They were chosen a preventive measure in the form of a recognizance not to leave and proper behavior. The exact number of victims and the total amount of damage caused are being established.
