Dutch police have arrested a man believed to be the country's most active Genesis Market user. The Politie portal, citing security officials, reports that he was also in the top 10 most notable participants in the site around the world.

The detention of a 32-year-old man, whose name was not disclosed in the interests of the investigation, took place on July 18, but it became known only now, which is explained by the interests of the investigation. It is known that the suspect permanently resided in Brazil and only temporarily arrived in the Netherlands. The arrest itself took place in the city of Barendrecht.

The Dutchman is also reported to have been one of the largest traders on the site. He spent and earned tens of thousands of euros on the Genesis Market. It has been a priority target for the local police cyber department ever since Operation Cookie Monster shut down the site and exposed its users to security forces.

“We suspect that the man has deceived many people with his actions. There are reports of people who have been robbed of tens of thousands of euros. With the arrest of this suspect, we have taken an important step in this investigation,” said Ruben van Well, head of the Rotterdam Police Cyber Department.

He added that new arrests of active users of the Genesis Market are not ruled out, not only in the Netherlands, but throughout the world. Data about visitors to the resource is still being analyzed by security forces around the world, including agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
