The startup Nocturne Labs has launched the mainnet of the anonymous transaction protocol, implementing the concept of private accounts in the Ethereum ecosystem.
According to the developers, the new solution functions as another account, and not as a separate tool or ecosystem. Unlike its counterparts on the market, Nocturne "integrates privacy directly to the account level", working by analogy with a wallet based on smart contracts.
Nocturne is compatible with any DeFi protocol that represents the state through "output tokens" like aTokens from Aave and cTokens from Compound, the project representatives stressed. Over time, the team plans to expand interaction with other types of dapps to create private accounts at the L1 and L2 levels of the Ethereum ecosystem.
"With the launch of Nocturne v1, we are moving away from the concept of a 'privacy tool'. Privacy should be built in at the account level. Implementing v1 is the first step to making this possible. [ ... ] Our goal is that everyone, from individual users to large organizations, can safely make transactions without revealing their financial history to the world," said CEO and co-founder of the startup Luke Chang.
The developers aim to ensure that "each member of the Ethereum network automatically receives a private account that displays its public account."
Recall that in October, Nocturne Labs closed a seed round for $6 million with the participation of Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of the second largest cryptocurrency by capitalization.
