Fortunately, customer data is safe. Or not?
Cloud provider Leaseweb recently reported a breach of its systems. The attackers gained unauthorized access to the portal on August 22. The internal infrastructure was damaged, so the company had to suspend the service indefinitely.
The client portal was unavailable for some time. After detecting the hack, Leaseweb notified users about the incident by email and started restoring their systems.
To investigate the incident, a third-party firm specializing in digital forensics was involved.
So far, there is no information about who is behind the attack and what the attackers ' goals were. Management did not report any signs of further malicious activity on their systems. There was no information about leaks or ransom demands either.
Experts have assured that the portal has been fully restored and all systems are functioning normally.
Leaseweb was founded in the Netherlands in 1997. The company has an extensive network of 26 data centers in Europe, Asia, North America and Oceania.
Experts advise users of cloud services to be vigilant and take care of protecting their data themselves, including using multi-factor authentication.
Although the provider Leaseweb responded quickly to the incident, it is not yet clear whether the threat was completely neutralized. The investigation continues.
