The influential publication Bloomberg has discovered a nest of hackers in the Russian quarter of skyscrapers. According to journalists, in the skyscrapers of Moscow City, offices are being rented for "about fifty" firms that have been involved in dirty operations with cryptocurrencies since 2018.
“While there is nothing illegal about it, such firms can allow attackers to cash out the profits from digital crime if they do not vigilantly monitor their customers,” the source said.
It was also noted that weak control over the activities of such companies may not create obstacles for the criminal activities of attackers. So, Bloomberg, with reference to the US Treasury Department, convinces that there are at least four firms in Vostok that are involved in laundering money obtained through ransomware.
Other companies mentioned in the publication include EggChange, CashBank and Buy-bitcoin.pro. The latter, according to Chainalysis, processed hundreds of thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency funds from ransomware and others, including those working with the darknet market Hydra.
