Currently, there are more than 18 million trade and service enterprises in the world where it is possible to pay for purchases using bank cards. Each outlet receives a special MCC code from the bank , which determines its typology.
This list of MCC codes will be useful to all those who, for example, participate in various promotions of banks offering rewards for purchases in certain retail outlets (for example, "supermarkets", "restaurants", "tourism").

Some insider information on the most common misconceptions from the IntellectMoney PS:
- Neither the merchant (here - IntellectMoney), nor the MPS, nor the issuing bank can change the MCC. Management of the MCC is a privilege exclusively of the acquiring bank. The acquirer has the right to change the MCC to any of its merchants at any time without notifying this merchant about it (neither before the change, nor after).
- Management of the MCC is governed by the Rules of the MPS. Almost always, the merchant's field of activity falls under one specific MCC, but sometimes uncertainty is possible (for example, for payment systems MCC 6051 is more appropriate, although MCC 4829 is correct).
- Some other payment systems operating under other MCCs violate the IPS Rules. And it is only a matter of time before these payment systems will also change the MCC and / or their acquirers will be subject to penalties from the Ministry of Railways (up to the revocation of the acquiring license). The IntellectMoney system has always tried and is trying to comply as much as possible with the legislation and other rules and regulations.
- Previously there was MCC 4829 - this is not an analogue of MCC cash withdrawal. Issuing banks independently determine the tariff policy for transactions with this or other MCCs. For example, payments to IntellectMoney from credit cards of the Credit Bank of Moscow, including during the period of operation under MCC 4829, were not equated to cash withdrawals; they were carried out without commissions (for which IntellectMoney is very grateful to this bank). Another bank decided to charge fees like cash withdrawals. Our clients and we did not like this, but that is the sphere of decision-making by the issuing bank. With the new MCC 6051, even with the cards of such banks, commissions should not be charged anymore.

Some insider information on the most common misconceptions from the IntellectMoney PS:
- Neither the merchant (here - IntellectMoney), nor the MPS, nor the issuing bank can change the MCC. Management of the MCC is a privilege exclusively of the acquiring bank. The acquirer has the right to change the MCC to any of its merchants at any time without notifying this merchant about it (neither before the change, nor after).
- Management of the MCC is governed by the Rules of the MPS. Almost always, the merchant's field of activity falls under one specific MCC, but sometimes uncertainty is possible (for example, for payment systems MCC 6051 is more appropriate, although MCC 4829 is correct).
- Some other payment systems operating under other MCCs violate the IPS Rules. And it is only a matter of time before these payment systems will also change the MCC and / or their acquirers will be subject to penalties from the Ministry of Railways (up to the revocation of the acquiring license). The IntellectMoney system has always tried and is trying to comply as much as possible with the legislation and other rules and regulations.
- Previously there was MCC 4829 - this is not an analogue of MCC cash withdrawal. Issuing banks independently determine the tariff policy for transactions with this or other MCCs. For example, payments to IntellectMoney from credit cards of the Credit Bank of Moscow, including during the period of operation under MCC 4829, were not equated to cash withdrawals; they were carried out without commissions (for which IntellectMoney is very grateful to this bank). Another bank decided to charge fees like cash withdrawals. Our clients and we did not like this, but that is the sphere of decision-making by the issuing bank. With the new MCC 6051, even with the cards of such banks, commissions should not be charged anymore.
