A book is a person's best friend, but hackers don't agree with that.

The British Library faced a critical failure in the operation of its systems due to a mysterious cyber incident that occurred on Saturday, October 28. The problems affected not only the website, but also many other services, including telephone communication and offline services.

Despite technical problems, the reading rooms continue to operate. Visitors can get access to materials on electronic applications made before October 26.

You can also order books directly in the reading room, using printed catalogs. Electronic catalogues and digital collections are not yet available, and payment for exhibition tickets is made only in cash.

On the official library page in X (ex. Twitter) reported: "Our Fantasy exhibition, as well as public spaces, will operate as usual, and all planned public events will be held as scheduled. However, you will only be able to pay for participation in cash on the spot."

According to representatives, an investigation is already underway with the support of the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) and third-party specialists.

It is not yet known whether the personal and financial data of employees or visitors were compromised. Information about the nature of the attack and how the attackers managed to get into the system was not disclosed.

The library emphasizes that its collection includes more than 150 million publications, placed on shelves about 625 kilometers long, and is replenished annually by 3 million copies. Moreover, the website is visited annually by more than 11 million users, and more than 16 thousand people contact the funds every day.
