The company exposes an attempt at a large-scale scam with a fake coin.

On the evening of October 4, visitors to the Lego website could notice an unusual banner with the image of gold coins and the company's logo, which announced that the Lego coin was now officially on sale. The banner text promised "secret rewards" to those who buy the token.

The button on the banner led to a third-party cryptocurrency site offering to purchase LEGO Tokens for Ethereum. Allegedly, the attackers hacked the Lego website by placing a banner to deceive visitors. It is worth noting that the company itself did not plan to launch an official cryptocurrency.

Fraudulent banner on the Lego website

Users on Reddit noticed that the incident took place at night Danish time, when the end of the working day had already come at the company's headquarters. Lego quickly responded to the incident and quickly removed the banner.

Lego, in an interview with Engadget, stressed that user accounts were not compromised. The company also added that it has identified the cause of the problem and is already taking measures to prevent similar situations in the future. However, Lego did not disclose details about what exactly caused the incident, and what specific steps are being taken to improve safety.
