The delegation from Kazakhstan headed by the Chairman of the AFM Zhanat Elimanov took part in the 28th meeting of the Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units (CHFIU).

The event was held on the sidelines of the International Financial Security Olympiad in Sochi (RF), where the participants discussed a number of topical issues of interaction between the financial intelligence units of the CIS countries.

One of the threats of money laundering and terrorist financing is the registration of bank cards in the names of fictitious persons.

The AFM, together with authorized bodies, is building a barrier to such fraud. The accounts of more than 770 individuals and 30 thousand drop cards used in drug trafficking have been blocked.

The participants of the international forum also noted that the threats of using digital assets for criminal purposes are growing daily.

Thus, in the field of combating the illegal circulation of cryptocurrencies, the AFM is working in three areas: illegal miners; illegal crypto exchangers; illegal transactions with digital assets.

Special units for cryptocurrency have already been created. The practice of confiscating them during the investigation has been introduced.

Since the beginning of the year, 9 cases have been registered against gray miners, almost 4 thousand mining “machines” have been confiscated.

19 crypto exchangers with a turnover of more than $60 million have been liquidated. It was possible to freeze digital currency for $1.2 million.

5.5 thousand online exchangers that operated illegally, without a license, have been blocked.

International experts have recognized that such risks are typical for other countries as well.

The heads of financial intelligence services of the Council member countries agreed to join forces in improving methods of countering new threats facing the world community.
