What is Israel's new "Cyber Dome" hiding?

In July 2023, The Week's journalists had a unique opportunity to visit the planned launch of Israel's Cyber Dome. This project is being developed as the digital equivalent of the Iron Dome for cybersecurity.

The main purpose of the Cyber Dome is to protect Israel's key infrastructure from potential cyber attacks from hostile States and other threats on the Internet. The property is a 90-minute drive from Tel Aviv. To ensure a high level of security, Cyber Dome uses advanced artificial intelligence technology, as well as a team of intelligence specialists.

Thanks to the policies of the National Security Service of Israel and the constant updating of personnel, initiatives like the "Cyber Dome", according to experts, will lead to the creation of a thriving cybersecurity ecosystem in Israel in the coming years. "So every three years, a new generation enters the cyber defense field after completing military training," Tidhar explained. "And officers retiring from the defense forces are joining the private cyber industry," he added.

The" secret "of Cyber Dome's success lies in the artificial intelligence platforms developed by the IDF. Intelligence agencies use platforms like ChatGPT to analyze vast amounts of information and identify significant threats. The IDF uses these platforms to build its defensive shield and enhance its offensive capabilities during wartime.

The Beersheba complex uses AI-enabled programs used by nearly 14,000 uniformed soldiers to fight enemies from Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, and other state and non-state threat actors. "Those who carry out cyber attacks against Israeli citizens should know the price they will have to pay," Portnoy said.

This technology is necessary for Israel, as the country is constantly being attacked by hostile agents. This threat has only increased due to the military conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Employees of the facility include professionals from the 8200 Intelligence Unit, J6 and the Cyber Defense Directorate of the Israel Defense Forces( IDF), the cyber divisions of the Mossad intelligence agency and the Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency, as well as the Ministry of Defense.

This project will be a key element in Israel's defense system against cyber threats, providing reliable protection in an ever-changing digital landscape.
