The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has put on the wanted list two cryptocurrency promoters from Hong Kong who are accused of fraud and money laundering through digital assets.
According to local media, Wong Ching-kit, known as Coin Young Master, and his accomplice Mok Tsun-ting are wanted. In 2019, the two were already arrested by the Hong Kong police on charges of fraud-they sold equipment for mining the Filecoin cryptocurrency. They were later released on bail.
In September 2023, Mok Tsung-tin was again arrested as part of a fraud investigation related to the JPEX cryptocurrency platform. The police received more than 2,000 complaints from victims, who suffered losses of about $178 million. The accused was again released on bail.
Recall that the problems at JPEX began after a warning issued by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) that the exchange does not have a license to operate. The exchange later raised its withdrawal fees to $999.
Wong Ching-kit was one of the influential people who promoted JPEX, and the local authorities ordered him to stop promoting the platform. Previously, he had already received a suspended sentence for violating the order in public places-a crypto-influencer threw hundreds of dollars worth of cash from the roof of a building. He also drove a luxury Lamborghini car emblazoned with the logo of the cryptocurrency he was promoting.
