Investigators and cyber police found that the criminal scheme to gain access to bank accounts of citizens was implemented by young men aged 16 and 17 years. To do this, they used phishing links that were distributed in social network chats.

Among those deceived are residents of different regions of the country, including employees of one of the orphanages in Sumy region. All of them received online offers for international assistance. Following a popular link, they were asked to enter a username and password, ostensibly to enter the bank's virtual cabinet. After such authorization, they lost funds from their accounts.

Young "businessmen" for a part of the income received bought the most modern mobile phones, and later sold them. In addition, young people purchased a car by registering ownership of their parents.

The fraudulent scheme was exposed by the cyber police of Zhytomyr region together with the SBU, with the assistance of the security service of JSC CB "PrivatBank".

On May 29, the police conducted 11 authorized searches at the places of residence of those involved in Zhytomyr, Berdychiv, in their vehicles, as well as in the Vinnytsia region. The police seized mobile phones, bank cards, computer equipment, hard drives, draft records and more than 20 thousand hryvnias.

Investigators of the State Tax Service of Ukraine in Zhytomyr region, under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's Office, informed the young men about suspicions of fraud (Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to preliminary estimates, the total amount of losses may reach more than one million hryvnias. As part of the pre-trial investigation, the identification of other likely participants in the scheme continues.

Those involved in a fraudulent transaction can face up to 8 years in prison.
