The investigator of the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Vologda Region completed a preliminary investigation of a criminal case on serial fraud. More than 70 residents of various regions of the country suffered from the actions of criminals.
“According to the investigation, the perpetrators called the victims and informed them about the possibility of receiving compensation for previously purchased biological supplements, medications and equipment that were recognized as counterfeit. The scammers urged them to transfer money to their accounts for paperwork to receive payments. The total damage exceeded 15.5 million rubles.
Employees of the criminal investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Vologda region detained 18 employees of the call center, which was located in St. Petersburg. One of the suspects has been put on the federal wanted list,” Irina Volk, spokeswoman for the Russian Interior Ministry, said.
Criminal cases were initiated on the grounds of crimes under Articles 159 and 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The defendants have been charged. One of them was taken into custody, and a measure of restraint was chosen in respect of the rest in the form of a written undertaking not to leave the place and proper behavior.
“The property of the accused was seized for a total amount of more than 10 million rubles. They voluntarily compensated for the damage in the total amount of 251,000 rubles,” said Irina Volk.
