Hungarian citizen Bence Horvath was detained upon arrival at the San Francisco airport on charges of violating US export controls against Russia, including conspiracy to illegally export American radio communication technologies, the final recipients of which were allegedly the Russian authorities.

Croatian is charged with one count: conspiracy to violate the Export Control Reform Act (ECRA), according to the US Department of Justice.

According to court documents, Horvath and his alleged accomplices allegedly organized and directed the activities of an international procurement network in accordance with radio equipment directly contracted with Russian state organizations, which was used in the implementation of a large-scale project to build radio communications on the border of the Kursk region with Ukraine.

U.S. prosecutors insist that Horvath played a central role in organizing the procurement of banned technology, as well as Washington's illegal, from Washington's point of view, supply of such technologies to Russia through a network of intermediate structures located in Spain, Serbia, Hungary, Latvia and other countries.

In particular, it is alleged that since January 2023, Horvath and other members of his network have been negotiating with one of the American companies on the purchase and export of military radios and other related equipment to Russia, however, after acquiring about 200 radio communication systems, an attempt to send them to Russia through Latvia was suppressed by the US customs authorities.
