Employees of the GUUR of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, their colleagues from the Stavropol Territory, as well as operatives of the regional FSB of Russia stopped the activities of a criminal community whose members are suspected of extortion.
"It was previously established that from February 2021 to September 2023, attackers created accounts with fictitious installation data in the popular messenger and social network. Under the guise of girls, they went to dating chats, where they met men. When the conversations were translated into private chats, the defendants began to exchange photos and video content of an intimate nature with them. Having taken possession of the phone numbers and other personal data of the victims, the accomplices began to extort money, threatening to send compromising material to their friends and relatives," said Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry.
113 citizens from 19 regions of Russia suffered from the actions of the defendants. The amount of damage amounted to more than 2.6 million rubles.
During searches at the places of residence of the defendants, police officers with the support of Rosgvardiya officers seized smartphones, office equipment and cash.
"The investigator of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Stavropol Territory initiated criminal cases on the grounds of a crime under Articles 163 and 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. All materials are connected in one production. Various preventive measures have been taken against 22 defendants.
Currently, the identity and location of possible accomplices in illegal activities are being established," Iryna Volk said.
