Officers of the Regional Election Commission of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Republic of Mordovia and their colleagues from the Criminal Investigation Department detained a resident of Ulyanovsk. He is suspected of fraud and illegal access to computer information.

It was preliminarily established that since September 2023, the attacker has visited various regions of the Volga region. He purchased a large number of SIM cards with subscriber numbers that previously belonged to other subscribers. With their help, he gained access to other people's accounts on the Unified Portal of Public Services.

Through the personal accounts of the previous owners of phone numbers, the attacker issued loans in their names in microfinance organizations. The money received was credited to the suspect's bank cards.

"In June 2024, the man was put on the federal wanted list. Evading the investigative authorities, he actively took conspiracy measures: he changed phones, did not appear at the place of registration, lived in rented apartments.

As a result of operational-search measures by the police with the power support of Rosgvardia officers, the suspect was detained on the territory of Samara. During the search in the apartment, five smartphones, bank and SIM cards were seized. He was taken to the city of Saransk for investigative actions.

The investigator of the Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Saransk initiated criminal cases on the grounds of crimes under Articles 159 and 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The defendant was chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention.

Currently, he is being checked for involvement in the commission of more than 500 similar crimes against residents of the Republic of Mordovia and other regions of Russia", said the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
