The investigator of the Main Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Kemerovo region-Kuzbass completed the investigation of the criminal case against three local residents. They are accused of embezzling funds from women from different regions of Russia.

"According to investigators, in 2019, one of the attackers developed a criminal scheme, which involved his father and brother. They registered fake social media accounts on behalf of foreigners, and then sent emails to women who wanted to find a life partner. After a short romantic conversation, the scammers reported that they had sent a parcel with gifts from abroad. However, to get it, you need to pay a customs fee and courier services. The victims were contacted by an accomplice of illegal activity and informed about the bank details to which the money should be transferred, " said Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry.

The Russians did not receive the promised gifts, while the scammers continued to persuade them to pay additional expenses. As soon as the women realized that they were deceived, their accomplices stopped contacting them and blocked them on the site.

The defendants were detained by employees of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Kemerovo region-Kuzbass in December 2022.

"Thanks to the work of investigators and police officers, 98 criminal episodes were identified, the damage amounted to about 5.5 million rubles.

An investigator of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Kemerovo region – Kuzbass opened a criminal case on the grounds of crimes provided for in Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Currently, the criminal case has been sent for consideration to the Central District Court of Kemerovo," Irina Volk said.
