Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Karelia detained a 22-year-old resident of Tula, who was involved in a series of online frauds. The man said that he himself developed the deception scheme.

According to him, he created fake accounts on social networks, indicating different cities in his profile, met other users and, during the correspondence, offered them money on the Internet. To do this, he fraudulently obtained passwords from them for the State Services portal.

Having received personal data, the attacker issued microloans to citizens. He sent part of the money issued by the credit institution to the victims, saying that this was their earnings.

Currently, the suspect is charged with at least 17 counts of criminal activity. Its victims were 9 residents of Karelia, as well as citizens living in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Salekhard, Khabarovsk and the Yaroslavl region. The damage exceeded 1 million rubles.

The young man admitted his guilt. He said he needed money to dress fashionably and bet on sports. At the same time, he lost most of his criminal income.

Criminal cases have been initiated against a Tula resident regarding fraud. The exact number of victims and the damage caused to them is being established.

The investigation is ongoing.
