In December 2022, an elderly resident of the Samara region, after a call from unknown persons who convinced the pensioner to transfer money to a safe account, sent 850 thousand rubles to fraudsters. During the investigation of the criminal case initiated under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Krasnoyarsk District of the Samara Region, it was established that these funds were credited to the card of a 19-year-old resident of Cheboksary. Without thinking about the consequences, the girl opened this account at the request of her acquaintances and, without suspecting it, played the role of a dropper in a fraudulent scheme. Thanks to the Cheboksary card, the attackers eventually stole the money of a pensioner from a neighboring region.

Law enforcement agencies appealed to the Leninsky District Court of Cheboksary with a lawsuit to recover 850 thousand rubles from a resident of the capital of Chuvashia in favor of the victim, and the court satisfied this claim. The decision has entered into force.

According to the Department for the Investigation of Crimes Committed Using Electronic Means of Payment, the Investigative Unit of the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Cheboksary, similar decisions are made in relation to droppers from other regions who provided their cards to steal money from residents of Chuvashia.
