The victim of cryptocurrency scammers was a 19-year-old student from Belgorod. Under the pretext of earning money on investments in digital assets, fraudsters lured her out of more than 4.5 million rubles.

The "divorce" scheme turned out to be standard ― the girl was offered a quick income on cryptocurrencies by some "curators" of the investment platform. They explained to her how to install the necessary applications and deposit money into an "investment account". After depositing a certain amount of money and the first success, the victim tried to withdraw some of the funds, but fraudsters began to lure out new investments.

"Under the pretext of paying for insurance, defrosting the account, and so on, the mentors convinced the girl to pay more and more money. As a result, she transferred more than 4.5 million rubles to the scammers. The girl borrowed money from relatives and friends, and also made personal savings. On this fact, the investigator of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Belgorod opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code (Fraud on a particularly large scale)," the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Belgorod region reported.

Now law enforcement agencies are conducting investigative measures to establish the identity of fraudsters. If they are arrested, they face up to 10 years in prison each.
