The court sentenced Walter Delgatti, who has been attacking the systems of state structures since 2019.

On Monday, the 10th Federal Court of Brazil issued a verdict in the case of Walter Delgatti. The hacker, who was arrested in 2019 on suspicion of hacking the Telegram accounts of high-ranking officials, was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The victims included members of Operation Lava Jato, one of the largest and longest-running anti-corruption campaigns in the country's history. The court's decision, however, can be appealed.

Former Justice Minister Sergio Moro, former Economy Minister Paulo Guedes, as well as advisers to the National Council of Public Prosecutors were also among the victims.

It is known that Delgatti planned to sell the intercepted correspondence of politicians to journalists. The defense's version that his actions were motivated by a "fight for justice" was denied by the criminal. "After media representatives refused to pay for the proposed materials, Delgatti's interest in generating income waned," the court explained.

The man is also accused of stealing bank details of various victims and selling them in special cybercrime chats. Often, the hacker posed as a bank security specialist and convinced the client to install an update on their computer, which turned out to be malware.

This month, Delgatti was arrested by Federal Police in another case involving hacking into the systems of the National Council of Justice. According to the investigation, the criminal created a fake arrest warrant for Alexander De Moraes, a member of the Supreme Federal Court. Now the police are investigating possible complicity in the case of Congressman Carla Zambelli.
