Let's face it. Many of us get hung up on things that once hurt us, made us angry, made us feel sad or depressed. If we fixate on them, then we stop moving forward, causing physical and psychological harm to our health. To prevent this, we must let go of the past, but no one will tell you exactly how to do this and move on. Of course, anyone can say, "Just forget about it, move on." But this is unlikely to help you with anything, is it?

Why you need to forget about the past and move on
Throughout our lives, we have acquired different experiences, both positive and negative and unpleasant. When you cling to negative or unpleasant experiences, you are constantly thinking about them. And if you constantly think about an unpleasant event, you prevent your emotional wounds from healing. How many fond memories do you have every day? Most likely, there are not so many of them and, like most people, you cling mainly to unpleasant experiences that prevent you from moving forward.

The more you care about it, the worse your life gets. Because you have filled your mind with negative knowledge, because you do not stop holding on to what stops you, in short, you carry useless baggage that is only a burden to you.

Think of it this way: you went camping with a big backpack and you keep picking up heavy items along the way that you don't really need at all. After a while, these items will start to slow you down and, in the end, if you don't get rid of them, you will never be able to complete your journey.

To forget about negative past experiences, you need to focus on other goals. But it’s not enough just to say, "I let go of my pain and start moving on." This will only help in part, but if you really want to start moving on, you need to tune your mind in a new way, concentrate on new things, getting rid of old ones and slowing you down in the process.

How to forget about the past and move on
Many researchers believe that if you become obsessed with negative feelings, sad emotions, or depressing memories, there is a possibility that this can lead to negative changes in the cells of your body that will subsequently affect your physical health.

Looping over negative events in the past is a process that can ruin your life before you even realize it. Ask yourself these questions:
• Do the negative things I cling to serve for a purpose?
• Do they help me move forward?
• Do they work for me?

If you answered “no” to each of these questions, then tell yourself, “These things only make me worse, so I need to forget about them and focus my attention on what really matters.” Start focusing on the things that can improve your life. It is a process that forces the mind to move in a new direction and allows you to stop the flow of negative energy that attracts unpleasant situations.

The next step is to create an action plan. Where do you want to go and how are you going to get there? You may not have the answers, but even if you just think about how to get your mind to move in a new direction, you will automatically get rid of unwanted feelings and emotions.

The final step is deciding to live in the present. Living in the present means enjoying what is happening now. Take a look around and begin to appreciate the things that have always seemed mundane to you. If you live in the present, you cannot be anywhere else. You don't cling to anything, you are here and now. Focus on some positive things, be it good weather or loyal friends. This will make your mind look at things differently and tell your subconscious mind that you are ready for new challenges.
