Over the past 5 years, the number of cybercrimes using the Internet and mobile communications has increased 11 times. The number of thefts from bank accounts or electronic wallets in 2024 increased to 169 thousand cases - for comparison, in 2023 there were almost 94 thousand. SberBank clients complained about fraudulent calls 3.7 million times in 2024, which is 63% more than the year before.

1. Fraudsters call on behalf of the bank, report that they are trying to apply for a loan to the owner of the phone in another city and offer to help. Most often, callers have personal information about a bank client, so people believe that the people on the phone line are actually bank employees. Next, the scammers ask for a code from an SMS, after which they issue a loan to the victim and debit all the credit money from the account.
The victim will be obligated to repay this loan because there is no reason for the bank to cancel it: technically they received the SMS code from the client. To try to resolve this issue, you must contact the police.

2. Fraudsters introduce themselves as bank employees, report financial support due to loss of income, credit holidays, installment plans, etc., and ask for bank card details. If the cardholder provides details, expiration date and CVV code, then fraudsters can use this information to make online purchases on behalf of the victim.

3. Fraudsters offer to take part in a lottery from the bank: to get a large sum, you just need to complete a survey on the website.
Of course, no lottery actually exists, and the site is an almost exact copy created by scammers. To confirm the bank card (to which, according to legend, the winnings will be transferred), the victim is asked to transfer a small amount (100-150 rubles). After which the scammers end the conversation.

4. Fraudsters pose as employees of a brokerage or dealer company and offer to invest money with a guarantee of high income. The victim agrees, opens an account, and then transfers the money to the scammers himself - it is important to remember that callers often turn out to be quite good psychologists, skillfully manipulate the person and do not allow them to come to their senses, convincing them to make a decision as quickly as possible. A person who is poorly savvy in financial matters trusts fake specialists and loses money.

5. Fraudsters send an SMS that imitates a bank message about the accrual of funds. Then a message comes from another number asking for a refund because the transfer was allegedly made by mistake. This is a very old scheme, but there are still gullible people who send their money to unknown numbers.

6. The scammers pretend to be the bank's security service and say that the account has been compromised and money must be immediately withdrawn from it and transferred to another, secure one. It’s easy to guess that the “safe” account belongs to scammers. Throughout the entire operation, the attackers do not allow the person to come to his senses and interrupt the conversation, escalate the situation and intimidate - most often the victims of this scheme are elderly people, who, as a result, lose their pension savings.

7. Scheme targeting those with a mortgage: scammers call on behalf of the bank and ask how a person plans to make a monthly payment - through an app or an ATM. The callers know the size of the mortgage loan, the payment amount and the client’s name. Next, the scammers report that the payment details have changed and convince them to make a payment to another account - otherwise, allegedly, the borrower will face a fine. If a person believes, then they send him a link that he must follow and transfer money.

How to protect yourself and your money:​


1. Make it a rule to ALWAYS call the bank back - if they call you and introduce themselves as employees of the bank or security service, hang up the call and dial the bank number yourself. The bank's contacts are always available in the application or on the main page of the bank's website. Never call back the number that called you from.

2. Never tell the caller :
– contract number, account number or card number
– CVV code
– contents of one-time SMS codes
– login and password for logging into mobile and online banking

Bank employees do not ask for such data - scammers need this information to steal your money.

3. Always take a break: even if the information surprised, scared or excited you. Hang up, count to 10, call your loved ones or friends who can advise what to do.
