Joseph O'Connor, known in some corners of the internet as PlugWalkJoe, was indicted on a number of charges related to a cryptocurrency exchange hack in May 2019. During the attack, he allegedly fled with digital assets worth about $ 784,000.

According to the investigation, from March to May 2019, O'Connor, together with his accomplices, organized a SIM card swap scheme and stole crypto assets from an American company that provides infrastructure for a cryptocurrency wallet and bitcoin exchanges. Its name was not disclosed.

Last July, O'Connor was arrested for involvement in a massive hacking of politicians and celebrity Twitter accounts. The victims of the hack were former US President Barack Obama, incumbent President Joe Biden, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, Tron founder Justin Sun, investor Warren Buffett and famous rapper Kanye West.

On behalf of these people, scammers announced the distribution of bitcoins and asked users to transfer a certain amount of BTC to them, promising to send much larger amounts in return. In March, burglary accomplice Graham Ivan Clark pleaded guilty in Florida court and agreed to serve three years in a juvenile prison.
