Cyber policemen of the Khmelnytskyi region, together with investigators of the GDNP and employees of the SBU Department in the region, under the procedural guidance of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor's Office, stopped the activities of an online service that provided access to the websites of the aggressor country in circumvention of the sanctions restrictions of the National Security and Defense Council.

"Law enforcement officers have identified a 28-year-old self-taught hacker from the city of Khmelnytskyi, who, shortly after the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, organized the illegal activities of a VPN service. Startup" allowed, bypassing the NSDC sanctions, to gain access to more than 48 million IR addresses of the Russian segment of the Internet. According to the investigation, the daily volume of network traffic exceeded 100 gigabytes. To set up Internet traffic with the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and the regions of the Russian Federation, the defendant equipped an autonomous server room in his apartment," the police of the Khmelnytskyi region reported.

In addition, the attacker rented servers located in Germany, France, the Netherlands and the Russian Federation. Thanks to this, the enemy's special services had the technical ability to access information about all users of the VPN service.

The man advertised his service in his own telegram channels and thematic communities, as well as on a world-famous IT resource, where he positioned himself as a project developer and looked for like-minded people.

At the places of residence of the attacker and his possible accomplices, the police conducted searches in Khmelnytskyi and Zhytomyr. Server equipment, computer equipment, mobile phones that contain evidence of illegal activity were found and seized.

Now the police are analyzing an array of information from the seized gadgets to establish the accomplices of the defendant and the sources of financing for his "business". The version of the hacker's cooperation with Russian agents is being worked out.

Investigators announced suspicion to the defendant under Part 5 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Unauthorized interference in the work of information (automated), electronic communications, information and communication systems, electronic communication networks committed during martial law). He faces up to 15 years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.

Based on the results of the investigation, additional qualification is possible.
