Members of the Play extortion group have published gigabytes of data on their darknet website, allegedly stolen from the American chip manufacturer Microchip Technology.

Last week, Microchip Technology reported that some of its manufacturing facilities had been disrupted by a cyberattack.

The company has approximately 123,000 customers across a wide range of industries, including industrial, automotive, consumer, aerospace and defense, communications and computing.

The incident left some of Microchip Technology's manufacturing sites operating at reduced capacity, impacting the company's ability to fulfill orders. Microchip Technology also had to take remedial action, shutting down and isolating some of the systems affected by the breach.

There was no word last week on who was behind the attack, but now the hacker group Play has posted information about the Microchip Technology hack on its darknet site, and on August 29, the hackers began publishing data allegedly stolen from the company.

The attackers have already made more than 5 GB of archives publicly available, which allegedly contain personal information, IDs and documents related to Microchip Technology clients, budgets, accounting, salaries, contracts and taxes.

The attackers claim that this is only part of the files they stole, and they plan to release the rest of the data if the company refuses to pay the ransom.
