Some Google Pay users reported that a "new card" had been added that they had not linked to their Google account. Google said it was caused by a bug.

The notification of the card's addition caused panic among users, who took to social media to share their concerns, suspecting they had been hacked. The cards had expired several years ago, adding to the confusion.

Some reported receiving at least 15 such emails. Some users received messages that read:

Over the weekend, Google notified affected users that the previous email notifications were “accidental.” The company assured customers that there was no reason to worry. The emails about linking an expired card were related to a bug that has since been fixed, Google said.

The company emphasized that there was no unauthorized access to Google accounts due to this incident. No confidential user data was compromised. Customers do not need to do anything, the company concluded. Therefore, emails with the linking of a new card can be ignored.

However, users should regularly check their payment methods and transactions, as this data is displayed in Google accounts.
