The unique system analyzes the behavior of applications in real time.
Google has introduced new real-world protection features that help improve user security while maintaining privacy. The main innovations include "Fraud Detection" in the "Phone by Google" app and "Google Play Protection" with real-time threat detection.
AI-powered fraud detection helps protect against fraud-related phone calls, which are becoming increasingly complex and sophisticated. This feature analyzes the nature of the conversation and identifies signs of potential deception, such as requests to urgently transfer money allegedly due to a problem with a bank account. If fraud is suspected, an audio signal, vibration and a visual warning are sent to the user. The system works exclusively on the device, without storing or transferring data to Google servers. The function is completely under the control of the user and can be disabled at any time.
Fraud Detection is available for Pixel 6 and newer users in the U.S., with support in English. The feature is based on the advanced Gemini Nano AI module, which is already used in the Pixel 9 series devices.
Another new feature is real-time threat detection as part of Google Play Protect. The system analyzes the behavior of applications, including their interaction with permissions and other services, to find potentially malicious programs. If the app detects malicious activity, the user receives an instant notification with the ability to take immediate action. In the first phase, the feature will focus on detecting stalkerware that can collect sensitive data without the user's consent.
All data processing takes place on the device through Private Compute Core, which eliminates data collection and transfer. Threat detection is available on Pixel 6 and above devices and will gradually roll out to other Android devices.
These innovations reinforce Google's commitment to developing technologies that keep users safe while protecting their privacy.
