Advertisers will soon lose the ability to promote synthetic 18+ content.

Google tightened its policy regarding ads related to adult content created using artificial intelligence technologies. On May 30, the updated inappropriate Content policy comes into effect, which now explicitly prohibits advertisers from promoting websites and services that generate 18+ content using deep learning technologies known as deepfake.

This update clarifies the company's already existing restrictions on ads containing sexual content, clarifying that promoting "synthetic content that has been modified or created to be sexually explicit or contain nudity" violates Google's rules.

Advertisers who promote sites or apps that create deepfake pornography, as well as those who provide instructions on how to create such content or compare different deepfake services to create it, will be immediately suspended without warning. They will also lose the ability to publish their ads on Google.

The company gives advertisers time before the rule is implemented so that they can remove any ads that violate the new policy. According to the publication 404 Media, the rapid growth of deepfake technologies has led to an increase in the number of ads aimed at users who want to create such materials.

Some tools, as noted, even disguise themselves as harmless services in order to get into the official Apple and Google app stores. However, on social media, they openly promote their ability to create artificially generated adult content.

Artificial intelligence inevitably evolves, and technology companies are forced to make ethical decisions to limit the abuse of new opportunities to the detriment of human rights and dignity.

The ban on advertising pornographic content created using deepfake is a responsible step by Google to protect the moral image of the digital environment. However, this is only the beginning of a long road to establishing a reasonable balance between creative freedom and the need to respect human dignity in an era of rapid development of artificial intelligence.
