SiegedSec ceased operations after the attack on The Heritage Foundation.
Recently, SiegedSec hacktivists hacked the database of the ultra-conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation. After the leak of 2 GB of confidential data, the group unexpectedly announced its disbandment
The decision to stop working is related to the desire to preserve mental health and avoid the attention of the FBI. One of the participants said that he had long thought about ending his career in cybercrime, and other members of the group supported this decision. Despite the rejection of criminal activity, SiegedSec continues to uphold its principles and fight for people's rights.

Before the dissolution, hacktivists published a series of angry messages allegedly sent by Mike Howell, executive director of The Heritage Foundation's oversight project. The conflict began on July 9, when SiegedSec claimed to have obtained The Heritage Foundation's usernames, passwords, and other confidential information.
The data was released in response to the promotion and implementation of Project 2025, which contains a plan for a radical transformation of the US federal government in the event of a conservative presidential election victory. SiegedSec opposed Project 2025, because, according to hacktivists, the project threatens the rights to abortion and the rights of sexual minorities.
Project 2025 proposes reducing environmental regulations, abolishing energy efficiency standards, and eliminating the U.S. Department of Education. In the field of healthcare, the project involves the privatization of many public services and the reduction of the Medicare and Medicaid health insurance programs. It also plans to cancel the approval of emergency contraceptives and end federal funding for abortion and gender-based medicine.
The Heritage Foundation did not respond to requests for comment about the hack and alleged correspondence between SiegedSec and Mike Howell. However, Howell retweeted fragments of the correspondence, without denying his involvement in what was said and without refuting the content.
Mike Howell's tweet
The correspondence, according to SiegedSec, began with Howell's question about what the hacktivists are trying to achieve. The answer was clear: they want to highlight who supports the foundation and oppose Project 2025. Howell threatened to expose the band members and destroy SiegedSec's reputation, which caused a public outcry.
Recent SiegedSec operations have also targeted the nuclear program of the US, NATO and Israeli companies in protest of the war in Gaza.
