Jare Sebastian Dahlke, a 31-year-old Colorado Springs resident, pleaded guilty to six counts of attempting to pass classified national defense information to a person he believed was a Russian agent. This was announced by the Ministry of Justice on Monday.

According to court documents, from June 6 to July 1, 2022, Dahlke was an employee of the US National Security Agency, where he served as an information systems security designer. Dahlke admitted that between August and September 2022, to demonstrate his "legitimate access and willingness to share," he used an encrypted email account to transmit excerpts from three classified documents to a person he believed was a Russian agent. In fact, the man was an undercover FBI employee.

All three documents from which excerpts were transmitted are classified as "Top Secret" and were obtained by Dahlke during his work at the NSA. Dahlke then requested $ 85,000 in exchange for all the information he had and expressed his willingness to share more information in the future with the intention that the information would be used in the interests of Russia. The FBI arrested the man immediately after he handed over the files. Dalke faces a maximum sentence of up to life in prison.
