Automaker Ford is investigating a data breach that saw 44,000 customer records leaked to a hacker forum.

The leak was reported by a user named EnergyWeaponUser, who named hacker IntelBroker as his accomplice. They say the breach occurred in November and the hackers were able to access 44,000 records, which they leaked to BreachForums. The records contain information about Ford customers, including names, physical locations, purchase details, and dealer details.

As reported by BleepingComputer, the records are not considered extremely sensitive, but contain personal information that could be used for phishing attacks. The hackers did not try to sell the data set, but posted it on a forum that any registered member could access for eight credits (about $2).

A company representative told the publication that the company is investigating the incident.

"Ford is aware of the alleged breach and is actively investigating it," Ford said in a statement. The company later added that its investigation showed no breach of Ford's internal systems, and that the breach involved "a third-party vendor and a small group of publicly available dealer addresses."

As BleepingComputer reminds us, IntelBroker is a hacker who has hacked Cisco DevHub, the Europol website, and Nokia and T-Mobile through service providers.
