Chinese hackers have surpassed the FBI - the agency has nothing else to brag about.

At the mWISE conference in Washington, US FBI Director Chris Uray said that China's cyber espionage program is so extensive that it surpasses all similar programs of other major countries combined. The FBI director's comments were unusually harsh, even amid longstanding U.S. concerns about Chinese hackers. This was reported by Reuters, referring to the comments of speakers at the conference.

"China already has a bigger hacking program than every other major nation combined. Even if every agent and analyst in the FBI's cybersecurity field focuses exclusively on China, Chinese hackers will still outnumber our staff by at least 50 times," Urey said.

The Chinese Embassy in Washington has not yet responded to requests for comment, but China has previously strongly denied accusations of using hackers to spy on the United States. The embassy said last month that U.S. officials and the media often "inflate" allegations of Chinese espionage.

Urey's statements follow a series of hacking attacks that have been attributed to China, including the recent theft of hundreds of thousands of emails from senior U.S. government officials. A Mandiant representative also commented on Uray's words, saying that Chinese hackers are increasingly becoming one of the best spies. "The best innovator in breaking cybersecurity is China," the representative said.

Urey's comments were another wake-up call in the U.S.-China cybersecurity relationship. The question remains: will the US or any other country be able to compete with China's hacking power, or will the global community have to accept a new reality in which China dominates in this area.

Earlier, we wrote that the Chinese hacker group Earth Lusca was seen in attacks on government agencies in different countries . Experts from Trend Micro analyzed the new Linux backdoor SprySOCKS, which is used in these attacks.

Also in early September, when students were returning to Chinese universities, they encountered an unexpected program: spy detection courses . At Tsinghua University, teachers and students were instructed on how to become a "line of defense" against foreign forces.

In addition, at the end of June, Northwestern Polytechnic University announced that foreign hackers sent phishing emails with Trojan programs to university teachers and students, trying to steal their data and personal information. According to the police statement, the attack was aimed at luring teachers and students to follow links of phishing emails with Trojan programs. Later, China identified the US NSA employees responsible for these cyber attacks.
