Experts from the Netherlands Forensic Institute have decrypted Tesla's tightly guarded storage database and found that it contains much more information than previously thought.

It is no secret that Tesla information about the behavior of drivers while driving, both in order to improve the autopilot and for transmission to investigators in the event of an accident.

As part of an investigation into an accident involving a Tesla electric car driving on autopilot, investigators reverse-engineered Tesla's data logs in order to obtain objective information.

As it turned out, the system stores much more data than previously thought, including information about speed, accelerator pedal position, steering angle and brake use. Some of this data is stored for a year, the researchers noted.

While Tesla has complied with government requests for data in the past, the company has not included information that might be useful, experts say.

“Tesla provides only a certain set of signals, only requested and for a certain period. Although the file logs contain all the recorded signals, ”the report says.

Elon Musk's company encrypts its data to protect it from competitors. In the event of an accident, Tesla car owners can request their data from the company, including video filming.

Tesla representatives have not yet commented on the findings of the experts.
