The investigation into the extortion of 40 million rubles from Lanit has been completed. One of the accused and, according to investigators, the organizer of the crime is an ex-colonel of the FSB, who worked in the unit for the protection of the constitutional order and the fight against terrorism.

The investigation of the criminal case on extortion of 42.5 million rubles from the Lanit company for stopping the dissemination of negative information has been completed. The Main Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow notified the defendants and their defenders about this, Kommersant wrote.
It is expected that by mid-October 2024, the accused party will get acquainted with the materials of the criminal case, which consists of more than 100 volumes. Three of the defendants were charged with extortion on a particularly large scale (paragraph " b " of Part 3 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). For this, they face from 7 to 15 years in prison.
The defendants in the case are ex - FSB Colonel Mikhail Polyakov, translator Denis Savinsky and businessman Alexander Sanin. All three have been in jail for more than a year. Polyakov is being held in Lefortovo ,while Savinsky and Sanin are being held in special isolation ward No. 99/1.They plead not guilty.
Lanit, Laboratory of New Information Technologies — is one of the largest IT holdings in Russia, a multi-profile group of companies established in 1989. According to the data indicated on its website at the time of publication of the material, it employs 14.5 thousand people.

The investigation considers Polyakov the organizer of extortion. At the time of the incriminated events, that is ," no later than November 2020, " he was serving in the so-called second service of the Moscow FSB department, which is engaged in protecting the constitutional order and fighting terrorism. By the time of his arrest, he had retired and held the position of Deputy Director for Security of the NGO "Directorate of the World Youth Festival".
According to the prosecution, his plan was to place negative posts on Telegram-controlled channels that could "cause significant harm to the rights and legitimate interests" of the owners of the Lanit IT company. The goal was a desire to seize the property of Lanit's managers, demanding that they transfer money for deleting these messages and installing a"block on negative".
The investigation concluded that from November 2020 to July 2023, Polyakov, nicknamed "Uncle Misha of the FSB", as the administrators of Telegram channels called him, and his accomplices received a total of 42,504 million rubles. At the same time, the defendants initially demanded $66 thousand, and then received quarterly transfers in cryptocurrency.
According to the investigation, Denis Savinsky, a translator married to Polyakov's own sister, and Alexander Sanin, General director of LLC Nasledieye Production and Construction Company, were engaged in cashing out the money received.

The defendants repeatedly stated that the materials of the criminal case contain information about only one negative publication in the Telegram channel "Nezygar "in November 2021, which hung there for nine minutes and was deleted after the appeal of the Lanit Group of Companies. It dealt with the company's relations with the tax authorities. According to the accused, it was a repost of an article from the newspaper Versiya dated November 15, 2021 under the heading "You run away, and I catch up", it is still in the public domain.
Polyakov claimed that he was not familiar with the alleged accomplice Sanin. He also categorically denied any communication with representatives of Lanit regarding the installation of a" negative block", as well as contacts with an individual entrepreneur hired by the company, who provided the company with services related to information support and image. He corresponded with the administrator of the Nezygar channel under the nickname nzgrcontact and never met Colonel Polyakov personally.
The defense of the accused believes that the criminal case was investigated by the GSU of the Metropolitan Police illegally, since at the time of the sane events Polyakov was an active FSB officer and his case should have been conducted by military investigators of the TFR.
Representatives of Lanit could not provide CNews with comments on this criminal case.
