The country's craft chambers are grappling with the consequences of hackers activities.

In Germany, the websites and online services of several Craft Chambers became unavailable after a security incident affected one of the MSP providers (Managed Service Provider, MSP).

The cyberattack affected the data center of an unidentified IT service and was detected in the first week of January, according to a statement on the website of the handicraft-focused news agency Handwerksblatt, which is still operational. As a result of the attack, all systems of the affected Chambers were disabled, and network connections to the Craft Chambers were severed. A data leak is also possible.

The websites of the affected wards currently indicate that they are unavailable due to a system failure. However, the wards can still be contacted by phone and email and are open to the public. The statement notes that work is currently actively underway to assess and eliminate the incident. It is not yet possible to predict when access to the website and online services will be restored.

A representative of the Dusseldorf Chamber of Crafts said that the planned exams, advanced training courses and extracurricular training of students will still take place. However, course participants will not be able to access resources on the wards websites.

There are 16 Craft Chambers in Germany, known as "Handwerkskammern", which are key organizations that support and regulate the country's craft industry. They represent the interests of artisans at various levels, from local to federal, and interact with government agencies. In addition, craft chambers play an important role in monitoring the quality of work, registering students and craftsmen, as well as checking their qualifications.
