Dmitry Ter-Stepanov spoke about the real situation with the collection of biometric data of Russians.
At the conference "Fintech-2024. Directions of development", organized by Kommersant, a representative of the Center for Biometric Technologies announced figures concerning the collection of biometric data of citizens in the Unified Biometric System (UBS).
According to Dmitry Ter-Stepanov, Deputy Director General of the Center, about 1% of Russians have written a request to refuse to transfer biometric data to the EBS.
Ter-Stepanov clarified that the mass anxiety caused by fake messages about the deadline for refusal was manifested only for a short period of time, and now the trend towards writing refusals has practically disappeared. "Now the number of people who write refusals has started to go to zero," he added.
Last year, companies were granted permission to upload already collected biometric data of customers to the EBS, and each participant was notified about this process, Dmitry recalled. As a result, the data of about half of the citizens is already integrated into the EBS. According to him, these figures clearly demonstrate the gap between the information background that exists around biometrics security issues and the real state of affairs in this area.
He also noted a significant interest in the voluntary transfer of biometric data: since the beginning of the year, the number of such citizens has tripled, reaching the mark of one million people.
