Happiness is not at all in them, money is only a tool for achieving goals. "PROFESSIONS" OF THE SHADOW INTERNET: WAGES, SPECIFICITY, PROSPECTS - CARDING​

We continue the series of articles about professions in the darknet, and move on to the next most "promoted" profession in the shadow network - carding. How much "on average" do carders earn, why is it still alive and why is it dangerous.

Carding and its types​

Carding is a form of fraud in which a fraudster pays for goods and services on the Internet with someone else's bank card (usually a citizen of another country, an American/European), withdraws money from the card or otherwise converts the available data into tangible and intangible assets.

There are actually three directions of carding, each with different subtypes:

1. Carding clothes through online stores - AliExpress, Amazon and other foreign commodity platforms, without knowing the pin code.
2. "Draining" funds without knowing the PIN code into semi-fiat: replenishing the balance of SIM cards by approximately $500, withdrawing to payment systems such as PayPal, etc.
3. Cashing out funds from a duplicate bank card through an ATM by stealing the card's PIN code (and all its data) using viruses that infect the ATM's RAM (after all, it also contains an operating system), or using special invisible overlays on the ATM's keyboard with small and unnoticeable technical devices inserted into the card reader that read the remaining data.

But this is the most brazen and most profitable direction of carding. Many of these devices are not cheap, and preparation for such events must be at the highest level (install, copy in parallel, record card data on magnetic strips of cards like Pyaterochka, manage to cash out money from already recorded duplicates, manage to remove these overlays before "exposure", etc.).

Most modern ATMs read data from cards using a magnetic strip (the black strip on the back of the card), not a chip. At the same time, data from a stolen credit/debit card can be written to the same magnetic strip of a discount card or any discount card. A device that does this in the blink of an eye costs only $400-$1,000 and is sold legally even on AliExpress.

In fact, the above is the first reason why CARDDING IS ALIVE.

The second reason: paying online without hassle. For example, you bought credit card details on a dark forum from a hacker who recently hacked the server of, say, an online store where thousands of people paid with cards (and accordingly entered their card details, which went to the hacker and then to you). If you think you need access to a person's phone number, you don't.

In the West (USA/Europe) 3-D Secure is not used, there is no SMS confirmation. There they use a security code (not a PIN code), which is set when receiving a card from a bank to make purchases on the Internet. Accordingly, firstly: this code leaks, like all card data when hacked. Secondly: there are many sites where it is not even needed, for example, to order even an iPhone from AliExpress using someone else's card data, you just need to enter the card number, the owner's first and last name, the card expiration date and three digits from the back, the so-called CVV2. That's it, the money is written off, the iPhone flies to the specified address. It is not a fact that the person will have time to cancel the chargeback (but if they did not, everyone would be engaged in carding and think that it is so simple) or would even notice the withdrawal of money from the credit card (SMS notifications about withdrawals are very often disabled in the West). Amazon doesn't even require a cvv2 code, and to write off money, you only need the data from the front side; you don't even have to enter an SMS from a any card.

Carders earn money in different ways, and their skill level is very different: someone just turns on a proxy and starts to “hit” all available credit card data on different sites and systems from a computer (testing) and orders parcels to their home address (downs), and someone hangs himself with dedicated servers, VPN, virtual machines and orders data via drops (American/European), and upon receipt sends it to the address of his girlfriend/dad, etc.

On average, a more or less "verified" carder-stuffer expert (orders parcels with iPhones and liquid goods) is able to earn about $5,000-10,000 per month without much stress. "With stress" up to $50,000 per month for carders with 2-4 months of experience.

But don't think that carders don't get caught. They do, and how. True, to put it mildly, much less often than drug dealers on the darknet. And they earn, with a certain amount of experience and determination, many times more, and walk free - many times longer.

If we talk about carding with the theft of PIN codes, then here the amounts can reach $100,000 in 1-2 days, but, as you can guess, the risks of being cheated increase exponentially.
