Scanning Graphic Formats Choose a graphic file format for photographs, illustrations, or other documents that you want to save as images. BMP and TIFF are standard image file formats that are typically used when additional image processing, retouching, or color correction is required. Files in these formats are usually larger than JPG files. Because JPG image files can be compressed in size, this format is often used for websites or when uploading files if the file size can make it difficult to send. JPG files are reduced in size as the image quality decreases. You can select the quality level for the scanned images by clicking the JPG file format icon. The PDF format is often used to create images of text pages. You can select PDF as the format for scanning text pages if they do not require OCR or other processing. The PDF format is also used to host multi-page documents on web pages as openable PDF files. Like JPG files, PDF files can be reduced in size at the cost of quality degradation. Selecting JPEG or PDF File Size 1. Select JPG or PDF as the page format. 2. Right click on the JPG or PDF icon. A menu will open. 3. Select the file size (image quality) options for the scanned images. Minimum size is the smallest file size, the lowest image quality. Normal size Medium file size with some loss in image quality. Highest quality largest file size, no loss in image quality. The options you select apply only to the button that is currently selected on the One Touch Properties window. These changes will not affect the other panel buttons with JPEG and PDF selected as page formats. For each panel button, you can separately set the ratio of file size and image quality. 4. Click OK or Apply on the One Touch Properties window.

Scanning Text Formats Selecting a text format automatically includes OCR as an automatic step in scanning, so when you scan documents with the selected text format, portions of the text in the document are automatically converted to editable text. Scanning with the TWAIN Interface Scanning with the TWAIN Interface You can scan from a TWAIN-enabled application instead of scanning from the One Touch buttons on the scanner or the One Touch Button Panel. Notice Regarding Scanner and TWAIN Standard. TWAIN is a widely accepted standard that computers use to capture images from scanners, digital cameras, and other digital devices. The TWAIN scanning interface is accessible from any TWAIN scanning application installed on your computer. Such applications (such as Nuance PaperPort and NewSoft Presto! BizCard, which are included with the scanner, and many others) can use the TWAIN interface for scanning. Since the TWAIN interface is the same for any software that opens it, you can use the instructions in the user guide to scan with the Xerox Card Scanner 200. To access the TWAIN interface from other software, refer to the corresponding user guide, then return to that guide for scanning instructions. NOTE. The TWAIN scanning interface is available when scanning from the One Touch software. If you are using the Configure Before Scan One Touch configuration and the TWAIN setting, the TWAIN interface will open immediately when you press a button on the scanner, without opening any other TWAIN-compliant application. For more information, see the "Configure Before Scan" section on page. 34. The PaperPort and BizCard User Guides are included on the installation disc included with the scanner. The PaperPort software contains all Help topics that provide answers to questions about every feature of the application. To open the Help window, press F1 on your keyboard or choose PaperPort Help from the Help menu.

TWAIN Interface Settings Scanning Using the TWAIN Interface Mode. Select the scan mode. Black and White is suitable for scanning in black and white. This mode is for scanning letters, notes and other black and white documents. Grayscale for scanning documents containing drawings or black and white photographs. In addition, you can scan color documents with colors displayed in different shades of gray. Color for scanning magazine articles, photographs, and other color images. Permission. Resolution determines the amount of detail that will be visible in the scanned image. The higher the value, the clearer and sharper the scanned image looks. However, scanning takes longer and the scanned image files are large. Brightness. Sometimes a document is scanned with brightness and contrast settings that make the image too light or too dark. For example, if you have a note made with a light pencil, scan it in a darker color to make it easier to read. Increasing or decreasing the brightness makes the image lighter or darker. Contrast. This is the difference between the lightest and darkest areas in the image. Increasing the contrast enhances the difference between light and dark shades, while decreasing the contrast makes the difference less noticeable. Auto cut to length. Selecting this option allows the scanner to automatically detect the length of the scanned document and crop the image to the bottom of the page. Auto crop to original. Select this option to automatically determine the size of the scanned image. When using the Auto Crop to Original option, always use the paper feed guides on the scanner to avoid skewing the pages. Removing the slope. Select this option to have the scanner detect pages that are scanned at an angle. The program will try to align the resulting image. However, if the tilt angle is too large, the program will not be able to fully align the image. In this case, scan the page again. Remove moire. Moire patterns are jagged, wavy lines that sometimes appear in scanned photographs or illustrations, especially when scanning illustrations from newspapers and magazines. To remove or reduce moiré lines in the scanned image, select the Remove Moire option. This feature is only available when scanning at lower resolutions in the Grayscale and Color modes.
