The Ultra I&C attack exposed sensitive data from the FBI, NATO, and Swiss Air Force to hackers.

Ultra Intelligence & Communications (Ultra I&C), an American subsidiary of the British defense corporation Ultra, was attacked by the ALPHV (BlackCat) ransomware group.

In the dark web, there was information that ALPHV hackers posted Ultra I&C data on their blog. According to them, during the attack that took place on December 27, 2023, 30 GB of data was stolen. Representatives of Ultra I&C have not yet commented on the news about the leak.

The ALPHV publication includes a variety of information, including audit, financial and personal data of employees. The criminals claim that the stolen data contains information related to the FBI, NATO, Switzerland, Israel and a number of defense companies.

The Swiss Federal Defense Administration confirmed that the data leak affected the country's Air Force, and Ultra I&C itself promptly informed the Swiss government about the cyber attack.

The Swiss Ministry of Defense, Civil Protection and Sports (VBS) said that incidents of this kind are always taken very seriously, so now the agency is already conducting a detailed investigation. However, according to current data, the operational systems of the Swiss Army are not affected by the cyber attack. Hackers have published only commercial data so far.

VBS also explained that their systems do not depend on a single vendor or system, which allows you to protect the IT systems used separately. Currently, the significance of the data published on the ALPHV leak site is being evaluated.

Ultra I&C provides military and intelligence encryption and communications services to defense companies, making data breaches a potential disaster for affected companies and organizations.

ALPHV has become one of the most notorious ransomware cartels in recent years. In particular, she was behind the attacks on the casinos of MGM Resorts and Caesars International in Las Vegas in September, as a result of which the latter was paid a cash ransom of $ 15 million.
