You were my angel, my hero, my antivirus. But you didn't deal with the threat...

Users of Coffee Meets Bagel (CMB), a dating app especially popular in the US, lost access to their accounts for 7 days. The failure of the platform lasted from August 27 to September 3. The reason is a cyberattack, the initiators of which have not yet been identified.

The attackers deleted critical files and data-this was probably the main goal. To restore access to the service, the developers had to try very hard: they had to extract a lot of backups from online storages.

The site has created a separate page with thematic FAQ's. Under one of the questions, the company assures that security measures will be strengthened to the maximum, and a full-scale investigation of the incident is already underway.

The most important questions remain unanswered: what was the entry point for criminals, whether they will demand a ransom and whether there was a data leak.

Representatives specify that the app itself does not store users ' payment data. All financial transactions are processed through third-party systems, just for security reasons.

As compensation, CMB offers a "consolation package": an extension of all active chats for seven days, a two-week free subscription and 1000 free "beans" - the internal currency of the application, which allows you to put and cancel likes.

The service was founded in 2012 by three American women. Initially, the idea was to make the app user-friendly and safe, primarily for women. Sponsors were interested in this approach, so the startup raised an initial capital of $ 23 million. Now the platform has 10 million users worldwide, and an incident with a cyber attack can seriously damage its reputation.
