UK law enforcement agencies reported a successful operation to introduce a DDoS service into systems, during which the alleged head of the DigitalStress service was arrested. The actions of law enforcement officers were carried out as part of Operation Operation PowerOff, aimed at suppressing the activities of DDoS-for-hire platforms.

The DigitalStress service, responsible for tens of thousands of attacks a week around the world, provided users with the ability to launch DDoS attacks. Attacks can cause significant damage to businesses and critical national infrastructure, and can also interfere with the work of emergency services.

The suspect was arrested on July 2. The name of the detainee has not yet been disclosed. The DigitalStress website was replaced with a mirror image that users were redirected to. Thus, law enforcement agencies were able to collect a database of cybercriminals.

Intelligence agencies also gained access to communication platforms where they discussed plans to launch DDoS attacks. Users of the service were shown that they can't discuss their criminal activities anywhere.

Administrators of the DigitalStress website used the ".su" domain, which is used by many criminal services, believing that it hinders the work of law enforcement agencies. The collected information about users of the DDoS service is currently being analyzed. Data about users located outside the UK will be transferred to law enforcement agencies in other countries for further arrests.

The UK is not the only country that is struggling with DDoS services. Recently, a US resident received 9 months in prison for creating and managing the Astrostress service, which allowed users to launch powerful DDoS attacks. Scott Raul Esparza, 24, pleaded guilty in March and charges were filed in February. The FBI investigated the case as part of Operation PowerOFF, an international initiative to combat DDoS platforms.
